☕ Westside Mutt Meetup and Love Coffee Company

Plus it's never too early to start planning for Bay Days

Welcome to Tuesday, Westsiders.

You know how I can tell I'm getting older? I downloaded an app that allows me to identify bird calls when we are out walking. Warblers, White-throated Sparrows, and Cardinals are no match for this thing. I am listening to them all.

My 25-year-old self was more concerned about hazy IPAs than Blue Jays. But without all of those IPAs, we wouldn’t have the Westside Buzz…and that would be a travesty.

Today, we are buzzing on:

  • Interested in a Mutt Meetup at Sibling Revelry?

  • Short Takes on the Westside

  • A Westside Photographer’s Route 66 stamps

  • Easter brunch rundown

Let’s get to it!

The Westside Buzz Bee break

Before we dive in, let’s hear about what is happening at today’s community partner, NUIQ Wellness Lounge and Med Spa.

Together With NUIQ Med Spa & Wellness Lounge

😴 Running on Empty? It Might Not Be You.

If you’ve been feeling a little… off lately—low energy, not sleeping great, workouts not hitting the same—you’re not alone. Your hormones could be out of whack.

What is hormone replacement therapy?

Hormone replacement therapy is a personalized, data-driven approach to addressing hormone imbalances that can affect everything from energy and sleep to mood, metabolism, and overall wellness.

NüIQ offers BHRT pellet therapy through a process that begins with a comprehensive consultation and detailed lab testing. Using those results, a customized treatment plan is created and administered through a minimally invasive in-office procedure.

This might be worth exploring if you’re dealing with:

  • Constant fatigue or low energy

  • Brain fog or mood swings

  • Poor sleep or waking up tired

  • Low libido

  • Stubborn weight changes

  • Perimenopause/menopause symptoms (or age-related changes for men)

And right now, they’re offering a solid incentive:

The first 50 people who move forward with labs get a $200 credit (normally $300).

If something’s felt off and you haven’t been able to pinpoint why, this could be a good place to start.

Mutt Madness

Westside Mutt Meetup & The 16 Sweetest Westside Pups

Three things that we love as Westsiders are:

  1. Dogs

  2. Beer

  3. Patios

Would you be interested in a Mutt Meetup to come hangout with fellow members of Buzz Nation and their dogs? It would be great to have some of the dogs that participated in Mutt Madness attend.

How about 📍Sibling Revelry Brewing on 📅 Sunday, April 11 around noon?

Would you come to a Mutt Meetup?

First Drink on The Buzz. (Dogs aren't required)

Login or Subscribe to participate in polls.

If we get enough interest we will confirm with Sibling Revelry and then send out formal invites!

Onto the madness.

We started with 128 worthy contenders and we are now down to the final 16. They are all winners in our eyes because voting between these dogs is harder than parallel parking without a backup camera.

Here are some highlights from this past round:

Sammie the toothy-grinned mutt garnered the most overall votes in the round of 32.

The matchup of the cat/dog combos Moose and Lucy saw Moose win in a narrow victory.

The closest match saw Truman win out over Finley by 1 vote! Make sure you cast your votes and get to the polls, Westsiders!

If you watched the Duke UConn game on Sunday, you know that every vote counts and you play until the final whistle.

“My family and I are from Cleveland , and have been here for several generations,” said Chris. “My great grandfather on my mother’s side immigrated to the United States from Sant’Agata di Militello, Sicily in the early 1900s and owned a produce stand at the Westside Market (Cleveland). My great-grandmother is still pictured to this day in the Westside Market cafe and I often go there to see her picture etched into Cleveland’s history.”

After serving honorably in the U.S. Army as a medic from 2019 to 2023, I moved back home to Avon Lake. I served full-time as a first responder, while also running a mobile coffee cart on the side with my wife.”

Love Coffee Company will be the couple’s first brick and mortar location.

Community Blend

Buzz Nation Has Spoken on Burke 📍 Cleveland

Last Friday we asked you what you’d want to see replace Burke Lakefront Airport. 330 of you answered. Here’s what Cleveland’s Westside actually wants:

The results:

  • 🥇 A promenade

  • 🥈 Forest / wooded hiking trails

  • 🥉 A public pier

If there’s one clear takeaway, it’s this: people want real access to the lakefront. And the top three answers back that up.

A public golf course? That one stirred things up. It landed fourth overall, but plenty of you pushed back in the comments. As one reader put it: “A golf course takes up too much space and can only be used by a few people.”

What’s been most eye-opening for us is the sheer scale of this land. We’re talking about 450 acres — roughly two miles wide. That’s not just another development project. It’s a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and it’s one we can’t afford to get wrong.

The stakes are high.

The write-ins added even more color. Many of you called for restaurants woven into the outdoor space. “Pavilions for festivals” came up more than once. Others imagined something bigger — an aquarium, striking waterfront condos, full-scale dining along the lake. And one perspective we didn’t expect (but respect): keep it as an airport and invest in it. Cleveland is one of the few cities in the country with a functioning downtown airport.

One quick note: the city’s official survey is still open — and your vote there carries more weight than ours.

What do you do with 450 acres of prime lakefront? Cleveland is finally being forced to answer that question.

Westside Pour Over

🚧 Lakewood — Starting Monday, the McKinley Avenue on-ramp to I-90 eastbound closes through early June as part of the $173 million I-90 overhaul running from Hilliard Blvd in Rocky River to West Blvd in Cleveland — detour via South Marginal Road to Warren Road.

🚰 North Olmsted — Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging, a Downtown Cleveland-based senior services nonprofit, just purchased the former Moen headquarters in North Olmsted for $6.6M and will be relocating there. (Crain’s $)

🤸‍♀️ Rocky River — Callie’s Pilates announced they will be opening up a Westside studio right next to the Eleanor and Hobbs boutique on Detroit Road.

🍵 The Long Steep

A Westside Photographer’s Life’s Work 📍 Lakewood

For more than 22 years, David Schwartz has chased Route 66 — over 40 trips, waiting for the right light and that neon glow.

This spring, eight of his photos will become the official USPS Route 66 Centennial stamp series (plus a ninth on the pane). One stamp per state, from Chicago to LA.

The USPS discovered him the old-fashioned way: a Google search and a phone call.

The stamps drop in May. In the meantime, Schwartz is opening his Lakewood studio and offering limited edition prints from the series.

I had the chance to drive Route 66 back in the day and it carries a nostalgic beauty every American should experience. It’s pretty special that one of the people capturing it lives right here on the Westside.

Visit picsonroute66.com for studio dates and prints.
