Plus theatre talk at Cleveland Public Theatre and a world record attempt in kilts

Happy Friday, Westsiders.
Every year I think the dogs can't get cuter. Every year I'm wrong. Mutt Madness 2026 is officially open, and if your pup has been patiently waiting for their moment in the spotlight, this is it.
More information is below, but if you think you have the most adorable dog on the Westside, scroll through your 859 photos of them on your camera roll, choose the best one you got and send it our way.
Last year Oliver took home the crown and got a prize package that included a professional photo shoot. This year? We have something special up our sleeves.
Today, we’re buzzing on:
Forest City Cleveland pro soccer
Cleveland’s coffee corridor
Hollywood headliners coming through town
Have a great weekend,

Lake-Clifton Corridor Project: 18 Years in the Making 📍 Lakewood / Rocky River
The Clifton Blvd bridge between River and Lakewood has so much potential. Unlike my freshman year of college, local officials are not going to let it go to waste.
At a Feb. 24 public meeting at Lakewood City Hall, more than 50 residents showed up to hear details about the long-planned Lake-Clifton Corridor project—a two-year construction effort aimed at slowing traffic, improving pedestrian access, and stitching together a safer connection between the two cities.
Planning for the project dates back to 2008, part of a broader effort to make Cuyahoga County’s 32 miles of lakefront easier to access for pedestrians and cyclists.
Here’s what’s coming to the corridor:
A “road diet.” The current four-lane stretch will shrink to two lanes
A new roundabout at the intersection of Lake Road and Clifton Boulevard
An 11-foot bikeway along the north side of Lake-Clifton to connect existing bike infrastructure.
A new greenway and landscaping, including bioretention areas and additional trees.
Traffic-calming upgrades
Construction will roll out in three phases, beginning with utility work and tree clearing before April 1.
Phase I: Two-way traffic stays open on the north side while the south side is rebuilt.
Phase II: A 90-day stretch without two-way traffic during roundabout construction.
Phase III: Traffic shifts south while trail work finishes on the north side (target completion: fall 2027).
Zooming out: after 18 years of studies, plans, and funding approvals, the Lake-Clifton corridor is finally moving from PowerPoint to pavement—and Lakewood drivers are about to get a crash course in roundabout etiquette. (Full Story in The Land)
Pro Sports
Cleveland’s NEXT Pro Sports Team is...

Cleveland’s new professional men’s soccer club officially unveiled its identity this week: Forest City Cleveland. The team will begin play in MLS NEXT Pro in 2027, part of a broader push by Cleveland Soccer Group to build a full pro soccer ecosystem.
More than 3,000 local residents helped shape the club’s name, look, and identity through surveys, focus groups, and interviews.
Here’s what we know so far:
The name: “Forest City Cleveland,” a nod to Cleveland’s historic nickname and the region’s tree canopy
The crest: Built around the legendary “Die Hard Tree,” a 350-year-old sycamore in Cuyahoga Valley National Park
The symbolism: The tree’s 12 leaves represent the players on the pitch and the community around them, while the crest also incorporates the outline of Ohio and design inspiration from Cleveland’s Art Deco architecture.
The colors:
Forest City Green (inspired by the Emerald Necklace)
Lake Erie Midnight (deep navy for the lake and night sky)
Golden Era (a nod to Cleveland’s industrial and architectural heyday)
What’s next: The men’s club launches in 2027, while the women’s team brand will be revealed May 4.
Between now and kickoff, the club plans to host community watch parties, local tournaments, and World Cup events—including a 2026 World Cup opener watch party at North Coast Yard.
Big Picture: Cleveland may be late to the pro soccer party—but if the sport’s exploding popularity in the U.S. is any indicator, the city might be arriving at exactly the right time. ⚽

Aut-O-Rama Twin Drive-In Opens for New Season 📍 North Ridgeville
Drive-in movie theatres were a core memory of my childhood. It was the first time I was so scared that I had to have my parents check outside my window that no dinosaurs were coming to get me. (thanks Jurassic Park).
The beloved Aut-O-Rama Twin Drive-In in North Ridgeville is set to open for its new season on Friday, March 27.
One of the last remaining drive-in theaters in Ohio, the Aut-O-Rama is a cherished institution for westside families and movie lovers.
Check their website for the opening weekend lineup. Let’s make sure that the next generation knows how fun drive-in movies are!

New Coffee Spot: Vessel Coffee Collective ☕ 📍 Gordon Square
5019 Detroit Ave
Right between West 50th and West 52nd on Detroit Ave you’ll find Vessel Coffee Collective, a new café built around the idea of a “multi-roaster” coffee shop—meaning they rotate beans from roasters around the world while emphasizing collaboration and community.
Walk through the front door and you’re greeted by a long coffee bar, a simple (but surprisingly deep) menu, and the kind of atmosphere that makes a coffee shop feel like a true “third place.” When I stopped in around 5:15 PM on a Thursday, the place was buzzing: people reading, working on laptops, and catching up with friends while soft indie music filled the background. One wall is lined with plants, bags of coffee, and drink options that could tempt even the most coffee-hesitant visitor.
I ordered two drinks: the Cassata Cake Latte (inspired by Sicilian sponge cake with fruit and floral notes) and the Dominga Carrasco pour-over, a washed Peruvian roast. The latte came topped with dehydrated strawberries and was sweet, light, and easy to love. The pour-over—served in its own little carafe—was bright, acidic, and complex enough that I had to take a few thoughtful sips before figuring out what exactly I was tasting.
In a city packed with great coffee shops, the quality and variety of beans here really stand out. Even while writing this, I could hear the bar staff walking customers through flavor notes, origins, and brewing styles. With a rotating lineup of coffees from roasters around the world, Vessel feels like the kind of place coffee nerds will either rave about—or quietly try to keep for themselves.
