Happy Friday, Buzz Nation.

We're enjoying the Cavs playoff run the same way one experiences Cedar Point. There's plenty of swearing, moments of exhilaration, and in the end it will have taken years off our lives. But we wouldn't have it any other way.

Go Cavs!

On today's edition of The Westside Buzz:

  • RRBC is (almost) back!

  • Pup cups for a cause

  • Frankielynn Hot Dogs found a home

Let ‘em know and have a great weekend.

Beloved Brewery Set To Rise 📍 Rocky River

The fire caused an estimated $3 million in damages [photo: RRBC Facebook]

Rocky River Brewing Co. opened in 1998, back when microbreweries were the new hot thing in Cleveland. Most of those spots didn’t stand the test of time. RRBC is still here—and after a roof fire and a full renovation, it's coming back brand spanking new.

After a roof fire closed the Center Ridge Road brewpub last June, owner Gary Cintron used the downtime to refresh nearly everything: floors, ceilings, furniture, restrooms, TVs, sound system, beer lines, and more.

RRBC first opened in 1998, during Cleveland’s late-’90s microbrewery boom. Most of its peers are gone. Rocky River is still standing.

New brewer Vaughn Stewart, formerly of Bookhouse Brewing, will keep the old-school brewhouse humming with classics and fresh additions.

Keep an eye out for RRBC opening back up in early June!

Porter’s Book Nook Legends 📍 Westlake

Some people say they support the library. Bob and Donna Manly have basically been clocking in since the card catalog era.

Westlake Porter Public Library named the couple this year’s Myrna Chelko Volunteer Award recipients, honoring volunteers who carry on Chelko’s long tradition of service.

And the Manlys have put in the hours — literally.

Donna started volunteering in the Book Nook in 2003, Bob followed in 2004, and together they’ve contributed more than 2,500 volunteer hours. They also help with the Friends Annual Book Sale, where Donna apparently adds baked goods to the mix.

Congratulations Bob and Donna!

Remember Huxter, the dog who had Buzz Nation ready to give all the treats, pets, and car rides to?

Fido’s Companion, the organization coordinating Huxter’s “Summer of Huxter,” is teaming up with East Coast Frozen Custard locations across Northeast Ohio this Saturday, May 16. A portion of every pup cup sold at all locations will be donated back to Fido’s Companion.

Fido’s Companion does more than rescue dogs. Their palliative care program supports pups with serious medical conditions — seizures, diabetes, kidney issues, cancer, and more — by covering their medical bills and placing them in comfortable foster homes where they can heal, rest, and be loved.

A few details:

  • When: Saturday, May 16

  • Where: East Coast Frozen Custard locations across Northeast Ohio

  • What: Buy a pup cup, and a portion of the sale supports Fido’s Companion

  • Why it matters: The money helps cover care for dogs with serious medical needs

  • Who it helps: Dogs like Huxter, who deserve comfort, dignity, and a few ridiculous treats along the way

Real Estate Development

Cleveland’s a Vibe 📍 Ohio City

Ohio City is getting another apartment project—the largest new construction in the neighborhood in four years. Developers have been calling the location "Hingetown," which is either catching on or the real estate equivalent of trying to make "fetch" happen.

The Vibe, a new-construction project planned for 2828 Clinton Ave., is moving closer to reality after securing financing.

The name is a nod to the site’s former life as home to Cleveland Vibrator Co., an industrial equipment manufacturer. Which means this is one of the rare apartment names that feels both trendy and historically accurate.

A few details:

  • The area has already seen major apartment growth with projects like Church + State and The Quarter.

  • It also sits near several neighborhood staples, including Rising Star Coffee, Saucy Brew Works, Larder, and Rosy, the new spot from chef Vinnie Cimino.

  • Construction is expected to take a year and a half.

The bottom line: Whatever you call this stretch of Ohio City (and we have opinions about what developers call it), it's getting another apartment building and building a lot of momentum.
